Last week I came home and found my very first actual copy of the UK version of CHARM AND STRANGE. What a surreal moment! The cover art for the book is absolutely stunning and it was done by the amazing Jim Kay. He illustrated A MONSTER CALLS, which is a book my son and I read together last year, and which broke both our hearts. When my editor at Egmont UK wrote to tell me they were asking Mr. Kay to provide artwork for CHARM AND STRANGE, I was both humbled and honored–but also terrified that my words wouldn’t live up to his talent. My insecurity and self-doubt aside, I think Mr. Kay has perfectly captured the emotions and conflict of the story.
[gn_quote style=”2″]No one really knows who Andrew Winston Winters is. Least of all himself. He is part Win, a lonely teenager exiled to a remote boarding school in the wake of a family tragedy. The guy who shuts the whole world out, no matter the cost, because his darkest fear is of himself …of the wolfish predator within. But he’s also part Drew, the angry boy with violent impulses that control him. The boy who, one fateful summer, was part of something so terrible it came close to destroying him. Sensitive, yet confronting. Unsettling…and utterly enthralling. Unlike anything you will have read before.[/gn_quote]CHARM AND STRANGE releases June 3rd in the UK!
